In 2018, Lam retired as Co-founder and Senior Managing Partner of the Private Equity division of Capital Group. As Chief Investment Officer, he oversaw the recruitment of nearly 30 investment professionals and the making of over 80 investments totaling USD 6 billion in emerging markets around the world, from Asia to Latin America, Eastern Europe, and Africa. Prior to joining Capital Group in 1992, Lam was a banker for 16 years, based primarily in New York and London.
On a part-time basis, Lam has taught classes in Investment Management or Corporate Finance at Pace University - New York, The University of Texas at Dallas, and Boston University - Brussels.
In the non-profit space, Lam has been involved (as a donor, mentor, or in various other capacities) with numerous social enterprises and NGO’s, including Ashoka and Endeavor. He was included in “Impactful Philanthropists in ASEAN” (2018 Edition), published by the Asia Philanthropy Circle. A former refugee from Vietnam, Lam and his wife have lived in Singapore since 1995.He earned a BS/MS from École Centrale (Paris, France), and an MBA from the Stanford Business School.A committed meditator, Lam believes deeply in inter-spiritual dialogue and the Perennial wisdom.
